There were some tense times on the IU campus late Wednesday morning. Bloomington Police were called to the area of 4th and Dunn after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls that a man with a knife was chasing two women. Callers said the man had last been seen near Sample Gates. A witness who was able to point out the suspect who had traveled east through the gates, walked down a short path and climbed on a ledge at the Indiana Memorial Union. The suspect, 22-year-old Karsten Harshbarger of Indianapolis, was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Monroe County Jail on two felony counts. An altercation at a school bus stop led to the arrest of a Bloomington woman late last week. 34-year-old Taleah Joe Vaught was charged with felony intimidation for allegedly pulling a gun on a group of Tri North Middle and High School students who were waiting at the bus stop. Witnesses say Vaught didn’t point the gun at anyone while she was making the verbal threats and she eventually left the scene. She later admitted to police that she owned a gun but said it was in her pocket when she was at the bus stop.
E&B Paving this week began the first stage of a project that includes repairs at several Bloomington parks and trails. Work got underway at RCA Community Park with crews repairing some issues in the parking lot. In coming weeks, repairs will be made to the concrete decking on the B-Line Trail bridge over Grimes Line, and to the asphalt surface of the B-Line Trail between Second Street and the Monroe Convention Center.
Bloomington’s annual Fourth Street Festival of the Arts is taking place this weekend. This year’s two-day festival will include more than 90 booths filled with the works of nationally and regionally recognized artists. The free event will also feature a Children’s Tent, Community Information Booths and live music and spoken word performances.
