Glass Houses–Special Playoff Edition 01-09-10

Glass Houses

Yes, it's a girl

Getting ready for Wild Card Weekend this morning and what’s wrong passing out some bad gambling advice?

Throughout the season, with the exception of a Colts game here and there, I never got into many predictions with the NFL.

Now that the tournament has started (please watch and learn, NCAA), what better time to make even a bigger fool out of myself with some predictions.

Here we go.

Two games today, two tomorrow.

Holtzie, don’t worry, I’m not expecting overtime pay here…

New York Jets at Cincinnati Bengals (-2.50) 4:30 pm NBC

I am of the school of thought that the team playing well entering the playoffs is a team to be reckoned with down the road.  Since this mantra does not apply to either one of these teams (please, Jets fans, please), I will go with my second criteria, quarterback play.  Yikes.  The last time Carson Palmer was in a playoff game, his knee was trashed on the first passing play.  Mark Sanchez is a rookie.  No help there either.  My third and final criteria is head coach.  Marvin Lewis has been the coach of the Bengals and has been to one playoff game, I think.  Rex Ryan is a rookie head coach who said this week that his team should be the favorite TO WIN THE SUPER BOWL.  Rex, you’re 50-1.  No advantage here either…

Prediction: Tie

Result: Cincinnati through on penalty kicks, 17-14

Philadelphia Eagles @ The Jerry Jonses (-3.5), 8:15 pm NBC

Dallas is hot right now after beating New Orleans and Philly in the last few games of the season.  Philly has not scored since they lost their starting center in week 16.  Tony Romo has had a great finish to the season, 12 td’s, 3 picks, but has never won a playoff game. Donovan McNabb hasn’t scored in the last 6 quarters he’s played on offense, but has been to a Super Bowl and 5 NFC championship games.  Andy Reid versus Wade Phillips is no contest.  None.

Prediction: The big TV hanging above the field does not get hit.  Again.  Oh, and Tony Romo does a “Tony Romo” when the Eagles bring the heat.

Result: Philadelphia 27, The Jerry Jonses 17

See you tomorrow with the other two games and to see how these predictions worked out!
